Hi, and welcome to the wonderful world of homeschooling! Getting started homeschooling is not as tricky as one might think. In fact, you don't have to wait until the next school year to start homeschooling. You can pull your child out and start whenever you'd like to! You can begin homeschooling in three simple steps.

  1. Look up state requirements. All states have their own legal requirements around homeschooling. You can find your state's requirements here: HSLDA.

2. Decide on a curriculum or education path. There is no set right or wrong way to homeschool. Some families decide not to use a specific curriculum and create their own programs. Others, choose to join tutorials or co-ops to teach the majority of subjects. Many families find success using full online programs. Or, you can choose a completely parent-led program. Just ensure that whatever you choose to do, you are complying with your state's regulations.

3. If you're required to notify your county/state, make sure you do that and then begin!

One of the best aspects of homeschooling is that it is extremely personal and individualized for each family. There are many clubs, groups, co-ops, sports, and more that you can join if that is what you desire. That being said, when starting out, you don't need to have EVERYTHING figured out... it can be as simple as 1, 2, 3. Happy homeschooling!
